The Very Dark Final Fantasy XV: Omen Trailer

Square Enix just released a new trailer for Final Fantasy XV entitled ‘Omen’.

Contrary to the usual optimistic, bromance-esque and ‘Reclaim Your Throne’ vibe of all the previous teasers they’ve released, Omen takes us to a dark dreamlike voyage which looks to be Noctis having a nightmare, and in the end shows a remorseful King Regis branding regret as he speaks towards an unknown entity.

Seriously…just what did Ignis put in Noctis’s food? ????

Rumors tell that this is a dark premonition that would eventually befall the Crown Prince should he take the journey in reclaiming the throne. And that this is exactly why King Regis specifically tasked his three ‘brothers’ to accompany him so that he would not lose sight of himself and what they’re fighting for.

Charles Garcia from PlayStation Philippines (Facebook) theorizes:

This is an omen or a dream which King Regis sees. As you can see, Noctis goes on an adventure alone. Fearing the bad omen, King Regis asks Gladio, Ignis and Prompto to accompany Noctis. This is where we’ll see “I ask not that you guide my wayward son, merely that you remain by his side.” part before the journey.

Also note that the plague of the stars is mentioned in the beginning of the trailer where young Noctis asks Luna about the prophecy thingy where the “only the true king anointed by the crystal can purge our stars of it’s scourge” and that the Oracle (Luna) and the King of Light (Noctis) will purge the stars of the plague. If Luna dies, the plague won’t end. That’s why it’s either Chaos or the Crystal that tells King Regis that he needs to see only one death: that’s the death of Luna.

Description from YouTube:

“Omen, a short CG movie by Digic Pictures, inspired by FINAL FANTASY XV.

A rapidly shifting world, enemies that appear endlessly, gradual loss of abilities…
And a madness that brings harm to the beloved fiancée.
This short movie, which can only be described as a nightmare for the struggling Noctis, is a collaboration between FINAL FANTASY XV and Digic Pictures, the world renown 3D animation studio that also took part in the creation of KINGSGLAIVE FINAL FANTASY XV.

This beautiful yet violent motion picture inspired by the world and story of FINAL FANTASY depicts an “omen” for Noctis’ father, King Regis, of a catastrophic future that must be avoided.

Final Fantasy XV will be released on November 29, 2016 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”
